Information about the Artist: National Gallery of Canada
The image for the 1920 CNE Poster and Programme Cover was created by Franklin (Frank) Carmichael (1890-1945), a founding member of Canada’s famed Group of Seven. Frank Carmichael was the silent partner in the Group, since he alone continued to work in commercial art full time. The CNE commissioned him to create this piece, which addresses the thinking of the period: Prosperity is achieved through hard work. You can learn more about Frank Carmichael at the National Gallery of Canada’s website.
