Crowd in front of Grandstand.
Throughout its history, the CNE has had four grandstands. Two have burnt down in fires and two were demolished to make room for larger structures.
The grandstands have always been a site that bring the community together, whether it’s to experience the thrills of the Hell Drivers stunt driving team, the spectacle of the Grandstand shows, gaze in awe at the Grandstand Matinee Show or get up close to their favourite celebrities and bands.
One prominent role the grandstands of the past played was as the end point for the yearly Warriors Day Parade. Each year, thousands of active and retired military men and women, from Canada and beyond, would march through the Princes’ Gates, through the CNE Midway and into the Grandstand to the applause of tens of thousands of people sitting in the stands.
