The Shell Tower was built in 1955 from plans submitted for a design competition sponsored by Shell Canada Limited.  George A. Robb was selected to complete the 120-foot high tower which included an observation deck at the 90-foot level.  It was the first welded steel rigid frame structure in Toronto, perhaps in Canada.
